The new Walton bridge opened on July 22, it is estimated to carry approximately 35,000 cars a day. Over 60 boats passed under the new crossing between Walton-on-Thames and Shepperton.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said:
“This new bridge is an important link across the River Thames which will provide motorists, pedestrians and cyclists access to major employers, schools and retail centres.”
The visit of Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin marked the completion of the new Walton Bridge on July 11.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin, Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander and the Defence Secretary Philip Hammond opened the £32 Million project, in Walton-on-Thames.
The new Walton Bridge is the first to be built over the Thames for over 20 years the project took just over 18 months.
Surrey’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Highways and Environment John Furey said:
“Good transport links help businesses grow, so as well as becoming the Thames’ latest landmark, Walton Bridge will also boost Surrey’s future prosperity.”
