Restore Your National Pride with the McLaren 720S

National pride is something that has perhaps been in short supply since the Brexit vote, with many ashamed that democracy has dealt them such a harsh blow and those that sit on the other side of the fence shamed into muting their opinions on the subject.

At Walton Bridge Garage we promise to deliver the same outstanding service regardless of how much you do or don’t love the EU. But this week has given us another reason to be proud of our country and that comes in the form of the McLaren 72OS.

As you will know McLaren’s HQ is just down the road in Woking and although the town doesn’t evoke the same prestige as Ferrari’s HQ in Maranello, it is great to have such a huge name still basing their operations in England.

Not only this but they seem un-phased by any external factors, with an expectation to double its volume this year, surpassing 10,000 unit sales in just five years.

An increasingly serious threat to the Italians and other supercar royalty, they plan to do this with the 72OS, the big brother of the 65OS, the first time they have released a replacement for an existing model since opening in 2011.

They’ve already started taking orders at an entry price of £207,900, not far off the average cost of a house in England, and have already sold all 400 “Launch Edition” models which will hit the roads in May. This is only the beginning with another 1,200 expected to fly off the shelves followed by another 1,500 in 2018.

It will be the start of a long line of new generation cars, of which, McLaren have promised to make half a hybrid model.

The two-seater supercar is built around a carbon fibre foundation with aluminium framing holding the suspension together. Powered by a turbocharged 4.0 litre V8, the 72OS produces 710 bhp!

It is also expected to exceed the top speed of 650S so should hit about 205-210mph, hitting 62mph in around 2.8 seconds.

So whilst Britannia may no longer rule the waves, it certainly looks like a serious contender on the roads!
