It won’t come as much of a surprise that across the nation we have different taste in cars. We see a plethora of different motors on a daily basis at Walton Bridge Garage. But now Carwow, the auto analysis website, has revealed where in the country favours what car.

If we’re honest it makes for pretty disappointing reading. There is no doubt that we’re a nation of car lovers but when it comes to owning them, the two most popular motors are a Ford Fiesta and the Nissan Qashqai. Of course in central London, where money rules over sense and the presence of green and muddy lands is almost non-existent, what else makes the top spot but the Chelsea tractor.

The data comes from Carwow’s car configurator, working out which models people were searching for most commonly in each area. Of course there is always a North South divide and those living in the tougher climate of the North actually prefer the Fiesta over the most popular car in the South, the Qashqai. Funny given that for the large part, those in the South have neither the climate nor terrain to really justify a 4×4. However the Qashqai did come out on top in its birthplace of Sunderland, which is nice.

The Golf proved most popular in Belfast and Glasgow with the Audi Q5 taking president in Aberdeen, somewhat surprising given Aberdeen’s economy is currently crumbling around it. Elsewhere across the nation the only other variation is the VW Polo up in Manchester and the Vauxhall Mokka of all things, taking the top spot in Luton.

Of course if you were to delve into each city, it wouldn’t be as black and white as the national picture may make out. Take London for example. The capital is a vast fabric of boroughs, all of which have their own style, fashion, community and feel.

Of course in prime central London the likes of Kensington and Knightsbridge are going to favour the Range Rover Sport. Nearby neighbours Chelsea and Earls Court prefer the Q5. As for mentioned, more centrally the Land Rover Discovery is the most popular. But in one of the capitals business hubs, Canary Wharf, the bankers favourite is the Mercedes C-Class. Head further west and the Golf again is the most searched for motor.
