That said, we’ve found one way that you can cut the costs without changing a thing, sort of.

A new study by Direct Line has found those heading into 2017 with lead shoes on will visit a petrol pump twice as often as those that don’t.

Not really surprised? Well aggressive driving habits like sudden braking or heavy acceleration could cost you an additional £562. When you put it into perspective it seems stupid to belt it passed someone just for the to catch up at the next red light.

Direct Line analysed over 300,000 journeys from 2,000 various drivers and found that those that take more caution when driving only spend an average of £837 to the £1,399 spent by more aggressive drivers.

That’s about 67% more petrol and breaks down to a pinky a week in monetary terms.

Just by adjusting your driving style you can squeeze and extra 280 miles between topping up and save a nice amount of money in the process!!

Makes sense to us.

We always recommend a safer driving style but if saving money on petrol wasn’t enough, it will also save you money on your MOT. If you aren’t tearing the back end out of your car on a regular basis you’ll save on tyres, a clutch, brake pads and discs for a start. Not to mention the benefit it will have on your engine.

So if you take anything forward as a resolution for the year ahead, why not try saving on your fuel costs.
