It’s been a tough year for Uber despite the app exploding onto the scene and changing the way many of us order taxis, for the large part for the better.
With traditional cab drivers literally rioting in the streets and two of its own drivers winning a high-profile court case against the company, they’ve had their fair share of negative PR.
This has continued with the introduction of their self-driving cars.
Uber have started trialing this latest technology on their home streets of San Francisco where the firm is based.
However, California regulators have ordered Uber to remove all of their self-driving cars from roads immediately due to a lack of permits to test the technology.
Uber have hit back and stated that because they currently require drivers to be behind the wheel of each car, no permit is required.
But the tech disruptors haven’t helped themselves, in fact, they’ve proverbially shot themselves in the foot. How?
Well on the very same day that they were ordered to remove their self-driving cars from the road, a number of reports were submitted of these cars running red lights.
One video shows one of the cars racing through a pedestrian crossing around four seconds after the light had turned right. Another photo has also emerged showing one of the cars entering an intersection despite the light being red.
Although this might seem like worrying signs for a technology where such mistakes could have fatal consequences, Uber have shrugged off the accusations and blamed them on human error.
According to them it was the fault of the drivers in charge of the vehicles and they have since been suspended.
Regardless of who was at fault, Uber need to get their self-driving act together before someone gets hurt.
