At Walton Bridge Garage we love a good racing game as much as the next person and have enjoyed playing them through the years. There is no doubting that the quality of graphics and gameplay have evolved big time as technology advances, this article from Buzzfeed demonstrates that.
But one current trend that we’re not sure about is remastering classic games with updated graphics. We’re all for making the next game better than before, but we think the classics should be left as they are.
It’s sort of like taking apart a vinyl record player just to add a USB port.
That said, we think the work of Eric Yui is pretty cool.
These aren’t remastered classics due for release but rather digital works of art as Eric has remastered gameplay from classic car games using the graphics from Forza Horizon 3.
These updated firm racing favourites are a result of a lightbulb moment whilst Eric was playing Horizon 3 and listening to the soundtrack for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.
Amongst the throwbacks are Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition, Crazy Taxi (great game), our personal favourite Need for Speed Most Wanted, Out Run and Project Gotham Racing 4.
They do bring back some good memories but looking at these images gives us a similar feeling as when your other half “needs a change” and gets a pretty out there, modern haircut.
They looks the same, but different. The hair style is better than their old one. But at the same time, you’re not sure if you like it and sort of wish they had stayed the same.
Either way it’s not permanent and you can always go back to the way you remember things.
