It’s always embarrassing when you cock-up at work, especially when someone catches it on camera. That’s exactly what happened to the guy in charge of test driving a 2017 Camaro Z/28 prototype this morning.
When you’re behind the wheel of a car in full camo gear, you know that camera lenses all over the shop will be focussed right at you, trying to work out what’s going on under there.
So this new Chevvy was no different and with a huge wing, front winglets and splitter and what sounds like the gargle of a V8, it looks as though the production of a Camaro designed specifically for the track is well on its way.
So where else to test it than the infamous Nurburgring, obviously. With a corner named the ‘Widow Maker’, the circuit is sure to put any motor through its paces. The driver in question takes to the track and is doing a pretty good job of things until he punches it through the twists and turns of the Nurburg Ring.
But then he gives it a little too many beans and locks up the back wheels of the American muscle motor. The natural instinct is to break, which he does, locking up the front wheels in the process and at that point, the stack was inevitable. The car slams straight into the barrier, does a Matt Hoffman and catches a brief bit of air, before coming to a stop.
Luckily the driver seems to have walked away fine and even managed to bring the Camaro limping back to the other side of the circuit.
If it was hard to tell what the Camaro looked like with the camo on, crashing it didn’t help, but to be fair the damage was minimal.
So despite the drivers red face at least he gave it a proper test drive complete with crash test.
