At Walton Bridge Garage we appreciate pretty much anything with a motor and this love isn’t restricted to just land based vehicles. So this week we’re going to off road a little bit, in fact quite a bit, so much so that we’ve actually hit the coastline and kept going.
Why? Because Aston Martin have just unveiled their latest foray into design engineering and this time round it’s a boat.
Yes, a boat.
A pretty sweet looking one at that.
Branded the AM37, the Aston powerboat looks like your typical Monaco play thing with its wooden deck and flash interior and in keeping with Aston tradition, could definitely slot right into 007’s arsenal of toys.
The boat is being produced by Quintessence (vom) Yachts, with the tagline “challenging the status quo of the nautical world” (double vom) but because it’s Aston Martin we will let that one slip.
Although it looks like your average boat in terms of, well the fact it’s a boat, the interior brings the Aston automotive twist and if you weren’t bouncing off the waves, you would be forgiven for thinking you were in an actual car.
However, the AM37 comes with a few additional features that you won’t find in your average Vantage. For a start, it has an anchor, but of course, it is electric and controlled via a digital control screen. It also has air con, a coffee machine and a fridge all of which you can get going remotely before you’ve even hit the marina.
The AM37 also comes with swimming platform as standard, although this may be a little obsolete if you’re thinking of running one up and down the Thames.
There is also an electric powered cover to keep your personal belongings secure in the harbour, but in yet more 007esque style, there is also fingerprint recognition. As with every high-end vehicle, there are added extras in the form of underwater lights, a cocktail bar, bespoke tailoring of interior materials and colours and much more, for much, much more money of course.
You also have a choice when it comes to powering the thing, with either the classic propeller or a more modern jet thruster propulsion. But it isn’t just the method to choose from but also what level of madness you want to go with it.
The AM37 comes with your choice of twin 370bhp diesel engines or twin 430bhp petrols as standard, but if you want to really pimp it out the AM37 S is kitted out with twin 520bhp petrol engines.
That’s more than 1,000bhp and at 52 knots (around 60pmh), you could certainly make a living as a delivery boy between Cuba and the USA.
The AM37 debuts next week, where else but Milan Design Week, before its official launch at the end of the year.
Aston Ahoy.
