We’ve previously touched on what the future of motoring may look like, particularly when it comes to autonomous vehicles within racing, the future of your favourite super cars, or even just for the everyday trip to the shops.

At Walton Bridge Garage we’re big fans of technical advancements, especially when they make life a little easier, or enable us to offer even better value for money. However one thing we’re not so hot on is keeping the place tidy, especially with all the greasy overalls, car parts and what not.

So as Google may be ramping up their bid to produce the first driverless car, it’s looking quite a way off from the everyday norm at the moment, however Nissan have launched something to take just a little bit of stress out of keeping the place in order.

The self-parking office chair.

The modified Okamura chair seems to have a mind of its own, responding to a single clap and automatically returning to its original, tucked in position. Thus returning your office space or meeting room, or even dining room for that matter, back to its original state untouched by human hands.

Ok it’s not magic, but rather some very clever technology. The chairs are tracked by four motion cameras on each wall, which allow them to be simultaneously controlled by Wi-Fi. But alas, rather than a pioneering move by the Japanese auto giant to branch out into office equipment, this is of course just a smart piece of PR.

The office chair of the future, is we’re afraid, just that, a thing of the future. It won’t be hitting PC World and co any time soon and they are actually a stunt designed to show off Nissan’s latest intelligent parking assistant technology.

So although you’ll still be lugging chairs about for the foreseeable future, parallel parking might become a fair bit easier if this video is anything to go by.
