Transformers, Robots Going To Auction…

Regardless of whether you’re a fan of the cartoon TV series first aired in 1984, or the recent Michael Bay reboot movie franchise, Transformers is a firm house hold favourite.

What can be cooler than a flashy motor that also transforms into a full on robot! Unfortunately we’ve not had one in for a service at Walton Bridge Garage yet, despite the competitive price and outstanding service, but you could own you’re very own Transformer if you so wish.

Ok you can’t. Well you can, but not one that comes with the robot functionailty. So basically you can have a car, but they are originals from the films themselves!

This month in Scottsdale Arizona, Barret Jackson auction house will be selling two original Autobots from the Transformers franchise. Both Bumblebee and who else but Optimus Prime will be going under the hammer! In their disguised state as a car and truck of course.

Probably the most iconic of all Transformers, Optimus disguises himself in the form of a Peterbilt truck in his recognisable blue and red paint job. The Peterbilt is an American icon, located in Texas and running since 1939, the company manufactures medium and heavy duty trucks.

The truck up for auction was the original Peterbilt used in the first three Transformer films and comes equipped with Autobot emblem positioned right above the grille and, of course, the awesome flame paintjob. Unfortunately the truck is no longer road legal, although I did spot a very good replica on the roads in Dorset a few months back, however it would make the ultimate piece of fan memorabilia.

Bumblebee is arguably the supporting star of the show with much of the original story line woven around him. The 1967 Chevy Camaro SS is a beautiful car with plenty of appeal as it is, let alone the addition of being a Transformer. During the latest films he does change shape and colour on a few occasions, from a clapped out banger to a real mean machine.

Fear not he’s being auctioned as the latter, a lively looking restomod as he appears in the Age of Extinction. Apparently Director Michael Bay liked it so much he decided to cop it for himself once filming had finished. It even comes autographed, again making it a highly desirable piece of memorabilia for any die-hard fan.

The Camaro could always continue its career in Hollywood though. Its six-speed manual gear box (what other type is there?), V8 engine and custom suspension would make it tasty in any car chase. Not to mention the aesthetics of its satin black chassis, carbon fibre fender flares and yellow accents – beautiful.

Both are being sold with a letter of authenticity and will hit the auction with no reserve.
