Rest in Peace Justin Wilson

Today the motoring world was shocked by the news that British IndyCar driver Justin Wilson has died following injuries suffered whilst racing.

The 37 year old was racing in yesterday’s ABC Supply 500 at the Pocono Raceway, when he was hit by the nosecone of Sage Karem, who was leading the race at the time.

Justin was a familiar face on the racing circuit, running for Minardi and Jaguar in 2003 before joining the Champ Car series a year later where he went on to record four race victories. When the Champ Car Series merged with IndyCar four years later, Wilson made the transition with it, securing over 100 career starts and three podium victories.

He was the 12th car to pass through the debris in yesterday’s race and he was extremely unlucky to have been hit by the loose piece of carbon fibre, leaving him unconscious and unresponsive. He was airlifted immediately but despite the outstanding reactions of the medical teams, later died in hospital.

Although he died doing what he loved, it will come of little comfort to his wife and two children and continues a sad year for motorsports after the death of F1 driver Jules Bianchi last month.

Our thoughts go out to all of those that knew Justin and it is with great sadness that, we at Walton Bridge Garage, dedicate this to his memory.
