A couple of weeks back, Walton Bridge Garage brought you news on Ford and their recall of the F-150 pick up, due to a dodgy upper i-shaft, leading to a lack of steering in some of their models.
At the time we joked that it could be worse and at least it wasn’t a loss of brakes. Well, not to be outdone by their American counterparts and rivals, GM has today announced a recall of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, due to, you guessed it, dodgy breaks.
An estimated 14,800+ cars could be affected by the recall which has been coordinated in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – must be serious stuff. Apparently the front brake callipers “may” be leaking brake fluid, which as you can imagine, could make stopping the 5000 lb trucks interesting to say the least.
It’s not though that any of the vehicles in question have left the states, but the affected units were all manufactured between the start of January last year up until the 24th December, just in time for Christmas.
We’re not sure if GM are reassuring anyone with the action of a recall. On the one hand bravo, well done for acting on it. On the other, it’s now June 2015, shouldn’t they have noticed sooner?
Regardless, at least they are notifying those that need to know now, and replacing all faulty callipers free of charge – awfully good of them.
They say no PR is bad PR and perhaps the reason for GM following in Ford’s recall footsteps has become apparent this week. It has been reported that the company that produces the frames for the new F-150 has been unable to keep pace with Ford’s demands. Although Ford haven’t admitted this, it’s clear that their earlier recall woes haven’t tainted the American taste for the best-selling pick up in the states.
