Snow Day

McLaren

The majority of us love a snow day. A day away from work to slide down a hillside like a child, orchestrate all-out snowball warfare or tear a McLaren prototype around a test track. Ok maybe not the latter, but that is what one lucky sod at McLaren spent the day doing in a teaser video released at the end of last week.

McLaren traditionally focus their output on quality rather than quantity in comparison to some of their larger adversaries, but have had a few new things to shout about of late. They took to the floor in Geneva last week to showcase two of their latest endeavours. The 675LT which they’ve confirmed they will build a limited number of and the scintillating P1 GTR.

But the McLaren chaps down in Woking aren’t finished just yet. They’ve been working hard on their new Sports Series, ahead of revealing the first prototype at the New York Auto Show in April. Based on a similar design to their Super and Ultimate Series cars, the prototype will have slightly less power but still boast a 3.8 twin turbo V8 and a carbon fibre chassis. Of course the price tag will be (slightly) more affordable with McLaren aiming to lock horns with the likes of 911 GT3 and the new Audi R8, rather than the super car super elite.

The video doesn’t give a lot away and what it does show of the new McLaren, is for the large part, doused in suitably arctic camouflage. Not to unlike an exotic dancer in a duffel coat, it provides 20 seconds of exciting noise and a cheeky flash of body work here and there. This said from what they have shown us things are looking promising to say the least.

Were excited to see the best of British causing a fuss over in Manhattan next month. But in the meantime, here’s something born in the USA that is guaranteed to make any child at heart reminisce fondly.

In a clever bit of PR Ford revealed their new F-750 at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis last week, next to an original Tonka Truck toy. Standing ten feet tall and covered head to toe in classic Tonka Truck yellow with decals to boot, the medium duty truck was there to showcase the new Blue Oval range.

Heavier than most but lighter than a big rig and running off a 6.7 V8 diesel engine, it’s a lump to say the least. This said it’s much more suited to snowy conditions than the McLaren prototype is and has probably caused as much excitement!
