Following the worries about the negative impact of the new Walton Bridge a study into the effect on traffic in the area has triggered a study.
Earlier in the month at Elmbridge’s local committee meeting of Surrey County Council, members looked at recommendations from officers to undertake a Walton to Halliford Transport Study in a bid to alleviate the concerns.
The new crossing opened earlier this year in July, however there is still much outstanding work to be done, including a new roundabout on the foot of the Shepperton side at the junction with Walton Lane. This roundabout is currently open (as of last week) but the roundabout consists of several traffic cones in a circle.
There are also concerns of the lack of speed management measures in Walton Lane, which was previously a one-way road.
The previous bridge structures are being taken down presently, they were originally meant to be removed by decemeber this year but is now thought to be due to be completed by April next year.
The study also promises to talk to the community at an early stage to “understand the concerns”, and later on in the development of options considered by the local committees in both Elmbridge and Spelthorne.
The area that will be looked at is the A244 (Gaston Bridge Road and Walton Bridge Road), between Charlton Lane and New Zealand Avenue, and the approach roads of Walton Lane on both sides, plus Fordbridge Road and Russell Road.
