A Jaguar XJ parked on Eastcheap at approximately midday on September 2nd two and a half hours later the owner found a crowd of people taking photos of his vehicle.
The heat produced from the glare of the sun reflecting off of the glass sided £200 million skyscraper is thought to of reached 140 degrees centrigrade! The upper floors are due to be completed in 2014, on these floors the building is much wider to give the impression it is bursting into the city skyline. This in turn had caused several parts of vehicle to buckle and melt.
Local pedestrians commented on a horrible smell of plastic which caused £1135.20 to the parked Jaguar.
The skyscraper has earned the nickname “The Walkie Scorchie”, it’s reported that a nearby Vauxhall Vivaro van has also similar damage.
It is thought that a whole section of the road where his car was parked has been closed while a solution is found, however because the sun moves and at different times of the day this could be a much bigger problem than they may initially think. Hopefully they can find a resolution.
