Due to new research it has been revealed that around 39% of drivers on UK roads are thinking about skipping their next vehicle service. To put this in perspective this means that the best part of 13 million motorists, the MOT test could be the only time their vehicle undergoes any kind of inspection.
According to the survey carried out by KwikFit, one in ten UK motorists confessed they ‘never’ check their tyres and one in seven (15%) have admitted to being aware their brakes have a problem but are not actively looking to repair it. An MOT only covers the bare minimum for a vehicle to be road legal, servicing is important to maintain your vehicle and by skipping a service will most likely result in large costs down the line.
These figures just reinforce the importance of the MOT test for road safety throughout the UK. September sees the highest number of MOTs than any other. In September 2010 a sixth (17%) of the year’s new car sales took place in this month. Meaning these 335,246 cars will need their very first MOT before the end of the month.
Drivers in the South West are the most likely to skip their next service, where a staggering 45% admit they will do. This is double that of motorists in Scotland, where 22% say they will skip their next service – the lowest in the UK.
