Your car or your house. Which would you choose?

We covered autonomous motor-vehicles a while back so don’t worry, we aren’t revisiting them. However there have been some serious claims this week about the time scale of their potential arrival, with talk of a super-computer helping to speed this along and Kia going as far as the potential delivery of one by 2030. Microsoft are also making advances towards delivering Office to the car, to combine the pleasure of driving a car with the not so pleasurable ability to work from it. Here at Walton Bridge Garage we voiced our disdain for such a venture a while back, so again, won’t be revisiting it.

But in a world where the raw pleasure of driving is constantly be faded out by new laws, advanced technology and dreams of comfortable pods that will take you from A to B all on their own, there are still those out there that value their relationship with their car above all else.

You don’t have to have a car of the classic or super variety to truly love it. Loving a car is a feeling you get through driving it, whether it be a 1.3 litre engine or a 3.5 litre engine. But there are those out there (often called enthusiasts) that take this love above and beyond that of a normal automobile owner. The sort of guy that will get up on a cold Sunday morning and travel to a car park up North, to stand and talk about the ins and outs of their car to anyone that’ll listen. At Walton Bridge Garage we salute them and their passion for the motor industry.

However one man has taken the love for his car to new extremes, choosing to keep it over his own house!

Michael von Trzebiatowski had to make a decision between buying his 1971 Aston Martin DBS V8 and keeping his house and of course, he picked the Aston. Childhood crushes can make us do crazy things and ever since Michael saw Sir Roger Moore driving the same Aston on the TV, he had to have one. It then took him a decade to track down one of his own and even then, struggled to afford it.

But Michael was drawn to the British icons understated “portly, good-natured and robust” design so he had to have it. Thank god he never laid eyes on Vanessa Phelps, otherwise he would be involved in a whole other love affair now.

Understandably with any man entering into a committed relationship, Michael had worries that his un-requited love may fade over time and he would regret swapping his house for a car. But luckily this hasn’t happened….yet.
