In the world of automotive PR there is a plethora of options open to manufactures, when announcing the launch of a new make or model. We saw Jaguar do it in style in Frankfurt a few weeks back, with a record breaking loop the loop to announce the new F-PACE. But unfortunately for the large part, we are treated only to your bog standard unveiling, with the car itself static on a rotating platform.

At Walton Bridge Garage we like to go the extra mile for our customers and provide them with outstanding service at a fair price. So we appreciate it when car manufacturers go the extra mile to bring us something a bit more unusual.

Audi have certainly done that this week with the promotion of their adaptive Matrix LED headlights. The headlights themselves almost have a mind of their own, dimming and shifting their focus automatically around the road, to improve safety whilst driving at night.

With such an awesome advancement, Audi couldn’t rely on a simple press release to spread the word. So they did this instead!

One of the more original marketing stunts of late, Audi created a billboard with a huge new A4 and placed it at an intersection by Brussells Central Station. Each time a pedestrian approached the junction, the A4 bathed them in a brilliantly blue pillar of LED light and then followed them through the junction, to demonstrate the lights movement.

As you can see from the video, it was bright to say the least. Not only did it look like an attempted prison break, we’re sure it may have startled one or two pedestrian and even caused some momentary blindness. This said there’s no doubting it improved their visibility and road safety for a short time at least, so if the real thing does the same, then it can only be a good thing.

Unfortunately those across the pond won’t currently be able to benefit, as the Department of Transport claims it breaches their rules. But regardless, hats off to Audi for a great demonstration of their latest headlight technology.
